With one of the most uncertain drafts in recent memory, not only because of the labor issues leading to no free agency before the draft, there is also no clear cut No. 1 overall pick, this will be a tough one to predict but here it goes.

1. Carolina Panthers – Marcell Dareus (DT, Alabama)

His stats are not overly impressive but the guy is the safest pick in the draft and with Carolina trying to trade down from this spot they are obviously not convinced with either of the quarterbacks to take them this high, it’s possible Jerry Jones pulls off a crazy deal and goes up and gets Patrick Peterson first overall but barring that I say Jerry Richardson goes with Dareus, with Peterson also a huge possibility here.  Probably a 55-45 split whether they will take Dareus or Peterson.  Dark horses, while unlikely, include A.J. Green and Von Miller.  I just don’t see them going with either of the QBs they are not safe enough prospects although Cam Newton would sell tickets and Blaine Gabbert would probably be the safer of the two but his college career has left much to be desired, and the GM has still not given up on last year’s 2nd rounder Jimmy Clausen, so I say they pass here and pick up a vet in free agency such as Matt Hasselback or Marc Bulger, maybe even Donovan McNabb or Carson Palmer if they become available.

2. Denver Broncos – Nick Fairley (DT, Auburn)

While reports have said his stock is falling, I don’t see it.  Yes, he may have some character concerns and work ethic concerns but these always seem to creep up out of nowhere when we get to draft time, and some team still disregards them and takes the kid anyway.  Fairley was a dominant force this year for the National Champs and had an excellent workout, really his only physical flaw is that he measured in at 6’3″ 297 lbs.(Pro Day (at Combine was 291)) instead of his listed 6’5″ 298 lbs.  The Broncos still need an elite defensive tackle, and if he doesn’t go here he would definitely go in the next six picks so the Broncos could trade down a couple of picks if Arizona would want to leap frog Buffalo to secure Von Miller or if Cincinnati wants to go after one of the QBs before Buffalo has a shot.  While they also could get a guy like Stephen Paea possibly in the 2nd round, or maybe a guy like Marvin Austin later in the 2nd or early 3rd, I still say thought go Fairley although like the 1st pick, I’m split about 50-50 that this pick could definitely be Peterson if Dareus is gone, because I know John Fox likes to take the best player availabe and Peterson is the best prospect in the entire draft, and would immediately give the Broncos one of the most feared cornerback tandems in the league.
